We have seen many direct messages that have been sent trying to make business owners believe that their business Facebook page will be deleted – “unless you take immediate action”!

The first course of action is to not react quickly when you receive a notification like this. This goes as a general rule for both business and personal accounts. Spam mail, spam email, spam calls, spam messages through social media, spam text messages, and so on. In most cases the best course of action is no action. Do not respond back, do not send a message back. If you are on the phone, politely say “can I please have your number and extension as now is not a good time to discuss this.

After that, the next course of action is search or research. Say you received a call from “Google” saying that they want to update your Google Business Listing and to press 1 to speak to an agent. Just a quick google search of “update my google listing phone call is it spam” will show you that it is indeed spam.

This applies across the board. Most recently, we have seen a lot of these “your Facebook will be deleted” threats. Ignore it, do a quick search and then you will indeed find out that it is just spam! If you’re ever not sure, then be sure to go to the source – check your account settings, reach out to the company, etc., just do not click any of these suspicious items directly.

If you are a client of WebLeaps we always encourage you to send us a quick email, we will take the time to let you know whether it is either legitimate or spam.

Is your Facebook account really going to be deleted?
