What not to do as a business owner

Friday, May 15th, 2020

To all you business owners and entrepreneurs we wanted to just put out a little Public Service Announcement that sometimes we forget, especially during these times. Try to stay away from the 3 P’s when posting on social media as your business. Your personal social media is yours to do as you wish, but we strongly encourage you to keep your business social media strictly for business.

Personal – Never bring your personal life, problems, or situations into your business setting. There are few exceptions to this rule, but in most cases you should steer clear away from this.  Life is different today than it was 3+ months ago and there is an “understanding” level or point.  But as we start to move forward, stay professional and try not to bring any of the personal things into your business.

Private – We really should not have to say this one but sadly we do.  Do not talk about private company information aloud.  Regardless of what the situation is, there is always a professional way to go about it.  Airing out company information or how you respond to a review or a disgruntled employee should always be kept behind closed doors.  The public would see if you acted professionally and with dignity, or if you allowed that “thing” to get the best of you.

Political – Although politics should never be a reason for someone to use your services or not, it can cause unnecessary distractions and tension. The last thing you want is to put a political post on your business social media post and have people end up trash talking one another when they should really be talking about your business and your products.

Also, remember this.  Deleted does not really mean deleted.  By the time you’ve “deleted” a post it’s already been screenshotted by someone or archived and backed up on a server somewhere.  Also, double check and proofread what you write before you hit the enter, or submit button.  We recommend using an alternative method prior, then spell checking.  Once that has been done, then copy and paste that text into the source you are using before submitting it.

We hope you found these as helpful tips that you will use going forward!
